ABOUT

Biography
Erika Bowe is a 25-year-old artist living in Acworth, Georgia. As a child, she often drew with her sister, which sparked a passion for art. Around this time, her parents also introduced her to many of the sci-fi tv shows that they loved growing up in the 1960s, such as Lost in Space, Star Trek, and Thunderbirds, which instilled a love for retro-futurism. These factors led her to develop an interest in creating retro-futuristic art concentrating on women and ultimately, pursue a BFA with a concentration in Illustration at Kennesaw State University.
Artist Statement
My art draws inspiration from my childhood love of retro-futurism while incorporating my identity as a lesbian; I try to create a feeling of nostalgia for classic sci-fi of the 1960s while allowing people like myself to relate and enjoy my art. My work prominently features women leads in sci-fi scenes; focusing on adventure and action, I explore the ideas and themes of love, friendship, and overcoming challenges together while still maintaining some fun and humor. I often work with digital paintings.
